iPhone homebrew prep continues

December 31st, 2007 · Comments

i just read about the 1.1.3 firmware leak over on Gear Live (see Gizmodo’s video depicting the leak in action), and it looks pretty cool.

the good: drag and drop app icons! home screen web bookmarks with pagination! multi-recipient SMS! google maps GPS (via cell tower triangulation) and hybrid map view! huzzah!

the ‘meh’: still no MMS? how about flash integration for safari? unlocks undone…again.

still, overall this is a step in the right direction, and it’s clearly prep-work in support of homebrew developer apps. that is, once the SDKs are sent out and content starts trickling in. for now, quicker access to web apps is a marked improvement, and the UI for the drag and drop is reminiscent of the ultra cool Wii Channel menu screens.

rumor has it this firmware update could land within a week or so, and we still have the much anticipated leopard update and macworld to look forward to as well. yay!
