in my own words

It goes without saying that the thoughts, ideas, and comments posted on this blog are mine and mine alone. They do not reflect my current employer, previous employers, or future employers.

That said…

I’m a product manager nerd who is obsessed with online communities, APIs, social media, and…anything related to tech actually. I’m particularly interested in online reputation systems and the open web.

I’m a father, film enthusiast, geek, avid reader, and have been known to enjoy video games, and music as well. I was a product manager for Yahoo! Answers in a previous life, lead the product management team over at Current TV for a bit, and have since moved on the bigger and better things at Meebo. I’m also one of the co-founders of Community Speak Up!

What is cine + octo = boo?

In short, my personal blog. In it you’ll find criticism, opinion, and analysis of anything ranging from film, TV, technology, comics, music, literature…you name it. I dedicated a good chunk of the blog to LOST while that was in production, but these days most of my posts range from tech to movies to family…and a little of the other stuff in between.

It just occurred that you might be wondering what the name actually means.

cine: A pretty obvious connection to cinema.

octo: I have an affinity for the octopus. Partly because they are resourceful with tools and proven to be intelligent, but also because the multi-tentacled aspect is just plain cool. I try to incorporate some of these traits into my interests, hobbies, and work, so I feel a connection there.

boo: A term of endearment we use often in our family.

Simply put, I selected these three aspects because they reflect something personal to me. First, I spent most of my education studying film theory, analysis, and digital media. So cine is a reflection of that. Octo, as I explained, embodies all of the plates I juggle, and boo is representative of the family aspects that will likely appear on the blog from time to time.

So there’s the explanation. It may seem goofy, but it’s mine.
